    Hey folks,
These carbs have taken me on a long and winding road, and now that I can see the promised land (aka riding this thing before winter sets in) I've spent like 6 hours already trying to get the float levels set.

I've got 3 of them, but #3 keeps giving me frustration. Seems like its either way too low or so high its overflowing from the carb body. Usually when it overflows its a gradual thing, like I'll measure and its looking OK but then the fuel level keeps slowly creeping up. Tried using the welding tip cleaner and the float seat to make sure that's all clear, I've tried over and over making tiny little adjustments to the tang and just can't seem to get it right.

What else do I need to try here? Keep going at it until it works? Does the tang need to have a steady slope? It may have been bent with a little curve at this point.

    Any help is much appreciated

Swap the float with another carb. This will isolate your problem from the float to the float valve and seat.

Have you replaced the float needle's? If you haven't, no amount of adjusting is going to work if the needle's are leaking.

Also make certain the float stops are not bent. They prevent the floats from falling far enough to allow the valve clips to slide off the tang.

Yep brand new aftermarket float needles and seats. I will try the float switch idea. I do have a feeling it has something to do with the float being bent.

Also check that the needle-valve spring isn't sticking (the nub that the float pushes on is spring loaded). The aftermarket ones are not always as smooth as the OEM ones. If that sticks it can account for 2 to 3 mm of fuel level change, which is enough to cause the float bowl to overflow.

OK did the float switch and looks like it is the needle/seat somewhere. I took them out and inspected and they seem fine, don't see any visible burrs or issues.

That spring may be the culprit... it definitely seems a little sticky, though its not sticking all the way. May try some silicone lube?

I might also contact the seller (not chacal) to see if they'd send a new one.

You can't effectively lube something that immediately becomes submerged in gasoline. The lubricant will only be effective until the gas washes it off; and lubrication is not the solution to a recalcitrant float.

Just let the spring sit where it naturally will, and adjust the float with it in that position. The float won't put enough pressure on it to move the spring; that happens when you put it all together without knowing that the spring is there. It's really easy to push the nub in during assembly without realizing, especially when you don't know that it's even possible.

So I compared the spring action to one working properly and it seems the little nub won't fully depress into the float needle, whereas the others do, plus its a little sticky to depress. Can I still just try to set it as Kmoe described?
