Ok I was reading the post about wet and dry setting the float highs and it said you should not have and after market needle and stock needles. The PO put in an after market one. It said them are about a mm longer. Could you adjust the float heights to make it work with an after market on or should I just get all after market floats. Also the screens where the needle sits are ripped can I just put an inline filter to fix that

Yes, but it never hurts to have those valve seat screens AND an inline filter.

It's doubtful that you'll ever get stable performance from those needles......they aren't really for Hitachi carbs. Best solution is to get needle/seat assemblies that are correct for those carbs (we have them in stock). You don't need to replace the actual FLOATS, just the fuel inlet needle valve/seat, sometimes (incorrectly) called "float valves".
