    Does anyone know of some good aftermarket footpegs that will fit an '83 750K Maxim? Also, is a gasket sealer necessary when replacing the valve cover gasket?

    Thanks,

    Dave

    Welcome Dave;
    As far as the valve cover goes, I just replaced my gasket when I adjusted my valves. The cover has a groove in it to accomidate A raised rib on the gasket. I just put the gasket in the groove and it worked fine. If you find it wants to fall out while installing it you could use something to retain it for installation. The gasket is some sort of rubber and I believe it is meant to be reuseable, and don't believe it requires any sealant. At least I did'nt use any. If I remember right it specificaly stated not to put sealant where the large cam plugs go.
    As far as footpegs go you can look several places.

    After some more checking, I found out there are 2 different gaskets. Depending on whether or not you have a YICS type engine. The yics gasket will have the camshaft plugs made into the gasket, the non-yics engine will have 2 separete plugs to intall on the right side of the gasket to cover the camshafts. It mentioned putting rtv sealant on the 2 individual plugs, but not anywhere else.

    As for pegs I went with the Kuryakan ISO pegs.

    Seem to be pretty beefy and easy to replace the rubber once warn enough.

    Are those generic Kuryakan pegs or do they have bike model specific replacements? My pegs are worn so this looks like a good alternative. Did you get it off the web or local aftermarket purchase?

    I got them at a local shop.

    I think the highway pegs are actualy V-Twin or something like that.

    But in the end all pegs are identical

    All generic stuff. They werent the easiest to impliment.

    Where the stock ones were had to be drilled out. Tricks as there is no way to hold the piece except by hand. The rear also had to be drilled out. Also the bolts that came with the pegs wasnt long enough so I had to get some...

    Think each set cost around $40

    Thats the same setup as my pegs, just different pegs.

    Problem is trying to get them tight enough! They WILL slip if you put a little to much pressure on them. I got mine so tight it actually put a dent into the crash bar tube, just a little dent...

    I actually want to take my crash bars off and have a few little sections TIG welded so they don't slip...
