    Hi there.
Just joined forum so still finding my way around.
I’ve recently bought a US import XJ650 Maxim.
A barn find that’s coming back to life, slowly.
My next “Major” job is replacing the fork seals.
Apparently I need a special tool, part number 90890-01300. Needless to say I can’t buy one, so.... for forks sake! Can anyone, please tell me what size allen key (or bolt welded to a long Tbar) I will require to achieve the job ahead. I’m not sure but think it might be 19mm. The forks are of the air valve in the top type.
    Thanks in advance
    Cheers
    Pete

I boltt the forks to a slab of wood using fender mounting holes so I can get leverage on the allen bolt.

an inverted spark plug socket can be used if the square drive hole goes all the way through.

you can also use a broom handle.

the allen bolt will need some heat to soften the thread locking compound.

I cut a long allen and inserted it into a socket for more leverage. I used the adaptor from my impact driver( the type you hit with hammer).

I will look at the size tomorrow.

I also have the tool with a nut welded to both ends. the tool is used to hold the part and the turning is all dobe on the allen bolt.

    Hi XJ550J
Thanks so much for your concise reply. I will give this a go next week. Got to say out of all the jobs I need to do on the bike, this is the One I’m dreading. Inside fork tops is quite rusty so not expecting the retainer clips to come out intact.
Thanks again and I’ll let you know how I get on once I’ve done it.
    Best regards
    Pete.

    Hey Xj550h
Thanks so much pal. That’s a massive help.
I’ll let you know how I get on when I tackle it next week. Fingers crossed it’s straight forward enough.
    Best regards
    Pete.
