I hate to part with it after all I've done to it since I bought it in October, but I have no choice. I have no room for 2 bikes and the wife will not allow a second one. :(
I will be signing the papers tomorrow on a new 06 Honda Sabre 1100.

I know I'll never get out of it what I have in it, but it has to go.
Some pics are in my gallery, and I can take more if interested.

It has just under 15K miles on it.
The carbs were completely gone thru in November, complete carb kits, throttle shaft seals, new mixture screw orings with ss washers.
    Petcock has a new kit.
Valves were gone thru and adjusted, new valve cover gasket.
    New rear shocks
    New foam grips
New Slipstreamer lll S-03 windshield (clear)
New front wheel bearings and seals
New paint on fuel tank with new emblems
    New fork seals
New rear tire just put on last Saturday (about 30 miles on it)
New front tire not installed yet, will go with bike.
    Both tires are Metzeler Lazertechs
Front tire on the bike is at 50%
    New 3 point engine guards
Oil was just changed 100 miles ago, have 3 new oil filters to go with bike.
    Haynes repair manual
    XJCD v4
New Mike Oberle YICS tool used twice
    Backrest and luggage rack
    Misc. sandblasted and painted parts
    Lots of painstakingly polished parts

This bike is in perfect running condition, starts first time every time.
    Only serious buyers please.
I will not part out anything on this list, it all goes with the bike.
This bike will be pick-up only, no delivery. It's located just outside Raleigh, North Carolina.

    Asking $1,800.00 8O
I know it's a little much to ask, but I've alot invested.
I have all receipts, and a clear title.
PM me for any questions you might have, or my phone# if you would rather talk instead.

Wish I had the cash, I'd be on it...aside from my 750 I have a totally empty garage and I'd LOVE a 650

Good luck on the sale, I'm sure you'll find her a good home.

    Sorry guys,
After more discussion with the wife, and still no giving on the 1 bike deal, I have decided to keep the Maxim after all.
When the tears welled up in my eyes writing the above ad, and tossing and turning all night, I've decided they can keep the new Honda. If I can have only 1 bike in my stable it will be the bike I have grown to love over these past months.
It's funny how someone can become so attached to something in such a short period of time.
I will continue to work on my old Maxim until I get it as near to restored as I can make it.
Besides I can't think of having a better bunch of people to bounce my questions and problems off of, then the guys in this forum.
I hope to be around for a long time here, and someday get to run into some of you on the road.

This put a smile on my face.

The sabre's a good looking bike, they sound great too but I think it was the Eagles whom said

"Don't you draw the queen of diamonds, boy
She'll beat you if she's able
You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet"

Going with your hearts always a winning bet in my book, even if others think your a bit crazy for it.

Yea, but it's not a Yammy.

That must have been a tough decision Richard. I'm glad my better half has no restrictions on the number (currently 4) of bikes in my shed cos I would not know what to get rid of.

It's each to their own but I prefer a bike that I can tinker with than some of these new fandangled things. The big factor with a new bike is everything costs big bucks for modifications whereas the good old trusty XJ has "some" parts till obtainable for bargain prices. Hurts less if you don't like that last mod you made.

Personally I think you made the right decision, but the gremlins and ageisms of the XJ is not for everybody.

Would ride with ya anyday, not matter what's under the seat. 8)

Wow, I think you made a great decision Richard. That bike of yours is a real beaut, and I know you'd regret it if you sold it! I know it had to be hard to turn down a new bike though too...

WOW! this has really been a couple of strange days.
My first choice for a new bike was a 07 V-star 1100 Silverado.
My dealer couldn't get the deal right so I choose to go with the 06 Honda Sabre.
Then after sleeping on it, I figured I just had the bike fever and would not be happy with the Honda after all. So this morning I called my dealer to let him know I was not going to take the bike.

Well an hour went buy and he called back with an offer on the V-Star that I just couldn't turn down.
    I'm now the owner of a V-Star 1100.

So with much sadness I will once again have to put the XJ up for sale.

So if anyone is interested give me a shout.
There will be no turning back this time it has to go.

I'll still be checking in from time to time.
I've grown to enjoy the crowd here and will still be stopping by.
Still trying to talk the wife into keeping the XJ, but I think I'm going to loose the battle.
They still have the "other motorcycle" section so they can't throw me out if I ask questions on my new ride, which I'm sure I'll have plenty of.
So you won't be getting rid of me that easy.

I'll be bringing it home Tuesday, I'll post some pics then.
I really like the color "Cerulean Silver" Looks a light blue certain ways you look at it in the sun. Real pretty.

Can't wait to see it in person Richard! Love those V-stars, they'd be one of my first choices for a new bike.

As far as the XJ goes, here's what ya do. Ask a rediculous price for it, so as long as you're "trying" to sell it, she can't get mad at ya!! $5000 sounds about right, eh?

Richard, sorry to hear you can't start a motorcycle collection  but I know how it is. I hope you do visit us from time to time, heck maybe finally someone will grow that "Other Motorcycles" forum .

Richard, I didn't get to know you very long but I believe you will love that v-star. I've been oggling those myself.
I keep thinking about not making that payment and the cheaper insurance bill...... yeah I'm cheap, but one day I'll cave in too!!
    ENJOY :p
