Are the maxim's suppose to lock the forks when you remove the key or do you have to do something to make that happen? The '82 xj650 max I recently purchased doesnt appear to have that functionality and i'm not sure if either I'm doing something wrong, or if something is broken...

If they dont normally come with that ability, is it difficult to add? (aftermarket)

I'm a little paranoid about leaving it out if anyone could roll away with it...

The key has two positions Counter Clockwise from off.

    The first locks the steering.

The second locks the steering and turns on the taillight (will run battery dead fast).

To reach these positions turn the handlebars left to the stop, then push in on the key and release. Now the key should turn CCW.

Cool! I definately would have never guessed that... Thanks for the info.

Whats the thought behind locking the forks, but having the taillight on? maybe the MC version of Hazzard lights I assume?

On the MaximX that position turns on the front running lights too. (Not the headlight.) I believe Yamaha calls them parking lights, but I wouldn't want to park that way for too long.

Sounds like something that was developed for the European market. Cars and bikes parked on the street in Germany must have parking lights on. The Haynes manual shows a parking light in the headlamp on european bikes.

I have the LOCK and the PARK on what was once a '83 750 Midnight Maxim.

The Tail light comes on in PARK. I'd like both turn signals to come on too.
Although I don't use the feature all that often; if I have to pull-off to the side of the road "for a moment" ... I'd like to have as much light, warning oncoming traffic, as possible.

I'm on a quest for some "Safety strobes" to very cleverly add-on without drilling holes.

Something like this module ... if it will fit in the void under the seat.

Which I am going to wire-up to my Rear Brake Light, Rear Turn Signals ... and, if there's a lead left-over ... my Front Left Turn Signal ... to look something like this to on-coming traffic -- at night:

Worth the $50.00 -- if I don't killed pulling-over to the side, at night!
