fork seals

    Hi , first post

    My xj 600 (1989) has just failed its MOT . So i need to replace the fork seals and lower head bearings allso the brakes are binding front and back. Where to start? Any usual problems to look foward to. Any help will be appreciated as never done anything like this before.

    Welcome to the fun Paul. There are a number of posts here concerning the fork seals so you shouldn't have too many problems tackling them. The head bearings are pretty straight forward and should be dealt with at the same time as the seals since you will have the forks removed at that time. All your issues are fairly easy with a decent selection of toolage. Just be sure to use factory fork seals, they tend to last longer. Brakes are a snap, just be sure to look very carefully for cracks in the rotors and the hoses. Given that the hoses are supposed to be replaced every ten years, odds are good you'll need to make an investment right about now unless the bike was babied in a garage it's entire life. The greatest advice I could offer you is to obtain either the factory manual or the Haynes manual. Without either your shooting in the dark.
