Fork Seals

Looking for fork seals kit for 85 maxim X.
Any suggestion where to buy? Best Price?

 

I have found out that the dealer has better fork seals at not too high a price.

 

The best ones I have found are at the dealer. Most of the aftermarket ones are 2 to 3 mm shorter than the Yamaha ones. This doesn't sound like much difference but when you are dealing with a hydrolic seal, yes hydrolic seal, Every mm makes a difference. Pop for the Yamaha ones.

 

I got a pair off of ebay as well........worked well and the price was right!

I just got my fork seals for my '81 550 from ebay last week, they are "Pyramid" brand. I haven't put them in yet. They were $14.50 shipped. I don't know how good of quality they really are (first time replacing fork seals), so I can't really help in that area.

for the few extra bucks it cost from the factory vs. you doing the labor for X brand if they do not work.. Um I would shell out the few extra bucks for the factory ones, not worth my time going to unknown or untested seals

im in the process of doing my seals.....gonna try a set of k&s off fleabay ill let yuz know how they perform.

found a easy way to get the forks apart....with a 3/4 inch square stock of wood...pefect fit :wink:

 

I'll be doing mine next week.

Factory seals + Progressive springs =
Handles much better than before!

 

where did you get the progressive springs?

Here's a tip you can use if the Oil Lock Piece is looking a little beat.

Using some Standard, water-based, Valve Lapping Compound ... you can "Lap" the Oil Lock Piece at the end of the Damper Rod. Since the Oil Lock Piece is soft, to begin with ... it only takes a few seconds of Lapping-it-in with just your fingers moving it around and back on the Damper.
