I thought I had this figured out, turns out I don't. 82 550 seca that I want to make dual disc. Bought a fork w/triple tree from a 82 750 maxim. Unfortunately, the tubes are 1mm larger in diameter so I can't just change over the legs.

Question: The 750 forks are about 1 inch longer and have a leading axle instead of the centered style on the 550. If the steering head is the same, can I still use the 750 set up?

Sure. People swap front ends from different bikes all the time. If necessary, you can get your steering stems pressed out and swapped from front end to front end, but I bet it will work as it is. You can always lower the triple clamps on the fork legs to quicken up the steering fi the geometry is too lazy for you.

That's reassuring. The 750 forks have air on them and are in nice shape, I was hating the thought of not being able to use them.
