I drained my gas tank today and when it got to the bottom the fuel was ORANGE. I found inside my tank a whole bunch of gritty gunk thats rust color and rolling around in there. This cant be good for my carbs. Very possible reason why my bike wont start huh?

I am going to do the salt water electrolysis to remove it soon.

And it should go without saying that the fuel filter is getting added to the line, right?

    Good luck!

I don't know if you've seen this video or this link, but it appears pretty easy to set up and do.

In addition, you'll want to remove and clean the screen on your petcock. If you don't have an inline fuel filter, you'll want to add one (obviously). You should probably remove and re-clean your carbs, too.

From your previous threads, I do wonder if this was your problem all along. The supply of fuel getting to the carbs was so restricted that it would run out of fuel after a minute of running. Then, letting it sit for a few minutes, enough fuel would trickle into the carbs to run for another minute or so. Just a theory, but the evidence does support it.

Iv sent my tanks to a radiator shop and had them coated but you need 2 remove the petcock and fule gage sender unit and plug them up with seet metal and a silocon gasket that you can scrap off when done.I do this 2 all my tanks and never worie about rust again.

I did my eBay rust tank over the winter. I used the Kreem 3 stage kit, and whie it worked pretty well, it still was not perfect. You need to be able to cover the entire surface, top, bottom, etc of the tank with the stage 1 etching solution, then wash it well with the stage 2 cleaner. You definately want to be outside when you do this as it is really noxious. The actual sealant is easy to apply, but again it needs to cover every square inch of the tank and be allowed to dry, also it needs to be a thin layer, or t will peel. MIne was not done perfectly as i could not get a decent seal at the cap and could not get a good etch there. The sealant ended up peeling but the major rust areas were below the level of peeling. I still had a small leak at the rear of the tank corner, where the sealant could not reach and there was a slight bit of tinworm. A little bit of tank putty and that was fixed. Yu might want to look at the POR15 kit, it is a bit more expensive but seems to be more forgiving. My old tank had been POR15'd and it lasted for years. cruzerjd

Well opinion of the kreem treatment sucks did it to the rule but only problems I ended up sending it to a radiator shop for 85$ and to imagine I spent 40$ for the kreem ... so there is my opinion
