So yeah, I finally finished building my xj110 with a big bore piston kit making it 1200cc now. Tried starting tonight with nothing but a click sound from the start solenoid. Pretty disappointing after all that work. Engine was completely disassembled to check everything fit shrapnel because of a mechanics horrible valve adjustment resulting in a dropped valve in pot#4. I will have photos soon of the complete build but for now.... I'd love to get it startedand not just a click.
    Any ideas?

Can't wait to see some pics of that project. In the meantime, I would check to make sure you have a good battery or battery source. Next, bypass the starter button by jumping across the two positive terminal on the starter solenoid. It will cause spark and might damage what you are using to short the two contacts. My 1100 had to have the contacts cleaned in the right bar. Just not making good contact to start the bike. If you are getting a "click" then at least the start button is working.

Thanks Timbox, I will try that, but first I was thinking I'll take the starter and clean it just in case corrosion has crept in over the 8yrs sitting period.

You could take a rubber mallet or hammer to the starter case if you think that is the issue. That would free it up before diving into something that might not need to be done. Simple stuff first then harder stuff. Isolate the issue and then fix it.

Well i got it! Turns out I wired the started in wrong so it wasn't getting power to activate. Sitting fit so long you can forget exactly what you did lol. So now I wait for fuel petcock repair parts to fix the very leaky petcocks. First start was great considering it was in many many pieces
