This is what I get for buying a 30+ year old bike that had been sitting outside for a good 4-10 years...

My front brake caliper will engage but will not disengage. I know there is a rebuild key for about $100 on the xj4ever page. But my question is, is there an after market caliper I can use on an 82 xj650? The one thats on there is in pretty rough shape.

I guarantee you that making an adapter plate to fit a different caliper will cost you more than cleaning, painting, and rebuilding the one you already own.

Rebuild the caliper ...to get the piston out one method I use it is messy but works pull caliper where the brake hose leads to caliper hook up a grease gun and pump it till piston comes out . Clean out the grease replace seals inside the caliper as long as piston is not pitted you good to go.
