I have been lurking around this forum since 2009, i have learned alot here and my bike has benefitted from the knowledge. You all have given me some great advice when i have asked for it. So i figured it was time to introduce myself and become less of a lurker.
My name is John, I'm from illinois/indiana. I bought my 1981 Seca back in August of 2009 from a guy in Michigan. The Xj550 was on my list of bikes to own. It was orange with a god-awful white pinstriping on the tank that looked like it was done with a white-out pen. But shortly after i bought it i got sent to Korea so it sat in a barn gathering dust for about 2 years. Then when i got back to the states i got sent here, to west texas. But thankfully i kept working on my bike via proxy to make it the vision i had in my head. I looked around for someone to paint the bike and everyone wanted around $1,000, but i ran across a guy in indiana that was fond of the Military and gave me a great deal and he painted my bike House of Kolor Wine-fire red over HOK Orion Silver with Mini Flakes. Then last summer i rode it back here to texas, 1,400 miles in 3 days. But with me being busy and being sent all over the place it sat for a few months in the sun getting covered in sand. Finally i was able to get a garage so i started tearing the bike down. When i had all the parts off and categorized on the floor, i got word that i was heading overseas again. When i came back in march, I had to slowly remember what went where. I found a great Electroplating Shop here that has chromed all the engine covers for me. And now with the bike looking the way i want it and all the neglected maintenance brought back up to date. I am getting very anxious to start riding again.

I'm sorry. I feel your pain. I live in western Kansas. At least your river has water in it.
