Not sure if the PO's replaced the front brake cable or not - hopefully the attached photo is clear enough to see! IS anyone able to tell me if this is likely the original cable. I understand from reading various posts, that it is highly recommended to replace with a "braided stainless" cable. Would anyone happen to have a photo of a new cable ?

    Thanks

rubber hoses "should" have a date stamp on them. Don't trust the PO either. Mine REPLACED the brake cables old brake cables with "good used" ones with a date code of 01/85. personally, i would just get the stainless ones anyway

    They're not cables, they're hoses.

The one in your pic appears to be original; it should have "date codes" either molded into the rubber or stamped in the metal ferrule on one end.

If original, replace. If over 4 years old, replace.

Stainless lines are a worthwhile upgrade. They're the single biggest imporvement you can make to the stock brake.
