Front brake pad

    On one of my front brake pad i'm missing that thing piece of metal, believe its referred to
    as a the shim?
    How important is it?

    The piece of metal that goes behind the pads? It helps hold the pads in place.

    you can manage without it if you wish, it stops the pads from rattling, whilst you're on the move, may also help to reduce squeal whilst braking.

    Yeah i heard of it as an anti squeal shim I think... if you guys lost one would you replace it?

    I had that pad missing on my 550 seca and ended up fabricating one out of a sheet of stainless steel, because without it the pad was loose enough that it would jam when trying to back the bike up with the wheel turned, making reversing the bike a real PITA.

    You can get by for a while if you use high-temp silicone to "glue" the pads against the caliper and the piston. Just use a little.
