I tried unsuccessfully last year to remove the right front brake caliper pin that holds the pads on. I was able to change the left brake, but the hex head was rounded inside the right one. I have been riding with no problems, but now my pad on the right front caliper is loose and makes a clicking sound as I am riding.

Any body have any idea how to get this pin out?

I have not found the "tech specs" on this pin either so that I replace it.

    I have an 82 XJ750J Maxim. Thanks

Here's what I do to get the stripped Pad Pin out.

    First: Conventional Weapons

Put an old extension you can beat on in the NEXT size Allen Socket and drive it in the end of the pin after you put some serious propane heat on the caliper around it.

Remove the extension and plug-in a ratchet or the power bar.
Take-up the free-play and whack the ratchet or bar a good HARD shot to break the pin free. Shoot it with some WD-40 and bring it out ... one hard whack at a time ... IF it goes.

    Second:
    Drill it - deep ... and get a good-sized Easy-Out in there.

Either way ... you're going to need need a NEW Pin.

I always like to try left-handed drill bits before I truly drill something out. They seem to work pretty well for me.

Figured I better give an example for those of you that may think that I'm crazy

I use RickCoMatic's oversized allen wrench techniqe, only I use a torx bit, anouther little trick if you feel the bolt starting to round but before it completly strips is to take a punch about the size of bolthead and give it a good whack,it will help jar bolt loose plus peen the bolt enough that you will have to tap the correct allen wrench in and quite often the bolt will still be usable

Well. I ended up drilling it out and borrowing a larger easy out than I had before. The pad was completely gone from the metal part so it just rattled free.

Does anyone know where I can get another pin? I work for a company that makes nuts and bolts so I found an 80mm long bolt with threads on the last 7 mm only, so I could use that and the matching nut for now.
