G'day once again, now this might seem like a silly question(but there is no such thing as a silly question only a silly answer) .
Here goes,it is my understanding that when you apply the front brake the brake light should come on?????
    thank you again.

yes the light is suppose to come on .you can check for continuity with a meter then you"ll know if its a switch problem or a wiring issue.my experience with old bikes is the hand brake switches rarely work.

Tha brake switch is simple in conception & simple to replace (tricky to repair, though)

On the rear brake, the switch has a spring between the switch and the brake pedal. Sometimes that spring gets stretched and needs to be adjusted to make the light come on. It can be tricky to get to
The front brake light switch is incorporated into the handlebar housing (very small) It could just be a broken wire that's the problem.
I had to replace mine with one from a salvaged bike when it went bad. The wire broke off right at the housing, so I couldn't splice it with no wire to work with.
