82 xj 750 maxim. hey guys, history... I took my bike completely apart over the winter for engine work and parts replacement alot of power coating. Ive put it back together and is running great. The only problem i had is the front brake will not make the brake light come on, foot brake works. Now to be honest i couldn't tell you if it was not working before the tear down. I normally use the foot and hand brake together. (I believe it did work !) So with that said, Does anyone have a simple wiring layout with wire colors. Im not getting it with the service manual diagram. Thank you for any help.

it is a simple switch in the perch the switches sometimes come apart it is the same style switch in the clutch perch.connector with a brown and yellow wire in it.
your looking for a 2 bullet connectors. one with a brown wire and one with a green/ yellow wire in it. they are in the headlight bucket

It's just two bullet connectors, not a unitized plug.

Under the brake lever perch is a hole. Poke a paperclip in there to release the switch. It's not uncommon for the switch to break at the seam due to age and normal use.

2 wires run up to switch the ones from harness run to signal fuse (brown) green yellow connects to other brake switch then yellow wire runs to cluster on Atari models . then yellow/black wire runs to brake light

lever accuates the switch. if you have continiuity the light should light until switch is pushed by lever

Thank you very much. Can you help me (ID) the signal fuse and brake switch location ? Are you talking about the switch that the foot control goes to ?

there are 2 brake switches one for front brake is located in the brake lever. the other is off of the foot pedal there is a spring connection to pedal and switch.

the rear switch has yellow wire and brown wire

signal fuse is in the fuse box under seat rear of gas tank should be 10 amp fuse.

maybe not, that might be a clutch switch that works opposite a brake switch. did it ever work right with that switch?

fuse is third fuse down . rear switch can be seen by looking down from clutch lever on motor. to swing arm mount area you will see a small plastic switch with a spring running down to small lever on peddle shaft. 750 brake switchr.jpg

    1. Okay guys i found the problem. My bad on the statement the continuity is continuous until i push the button. It was just the opposite. I found the yellow wire from the front brake i had plugged into a yellow wire behind the battery found out it was wrong. Now i have no idea what that yellow wire # 1 and a white with red strip wire # 2 goes. 20190728_125456.jpg

the other yellow wire is the brake light wire that goes to tail light.
look in your photo you will see the other end above the shock bolt with no place to go. the running light wire should be right next to yellow wire it is blue/stripe wire. then there is a set of grounds (3) to hook up ground from tail light .
wires 1 and 2 are the brake switch wires wiring diagram miss stated color

pink with red stripe is battery level sensor wire . if you hook it to the proper size resistor and to a hot source ie battery plus or alwayson tail light. this will turn off the warning light and tell you when you have a low voltage situation going on.
