Front Brakes

    I have wondered why not just run 2 Brake lines from the calipers to the Master Cylinder. Then use a double banjo bolt to tie the brake lines directly to the Master Cylinder and get rid of the piece in the middle. Would it work or is there a reason why Yamaha uses 3 brake lines instead of 2? Is there a reason for the piece in the middle that ties it together? Thanks....Bob

    No idea. I've the same question and I chose the two line set up to simplify the number of joints. Fewer joints, fewer possible leaks.

    The double banjo bolt will work. I haven't done it but others have.
    My best guess as to why Yamaha did three lines is thatcaliper to fork length is basicly the same for all the XJ's and many other bikes like the Virago. This makes it possible for them to order many 16 inch lines and have no real problem with over stock. Then the only variant is the master cylinder to fork line which would vary a bit due to handle bars and location of the master cylinder.

    Good point, sounds totally feasable. Manufacturers are always looking for ways to cut down on production costs.
