I'm in the process of bobbing out my 82 xj650 and wanted to go with no front fender, but keep hearing that it acts as a lower fork support and was just wondering if this is true or can I run it with out one?

There is a built in fork brace on the underside of xj fenders. You can run the bike without one but at higher speeds the bike will get kind of twitchy at times and can get scary. You can still find an aftermarket fork brace with a little looking around.
