This weekend I replaced the fork seals on my '83 Maxim 750. In the process I determined the my forks are really bent(as in it was EXTREMELY hard to get the brakes on and now they rub).

After looking at ebay to see if there were any forks for sale I found two sets. One is from an '81 Seca 750 and the other says '81-'83 Seca 750. Will either of these tubes fit my bike? I don't need the outer fork tube as mine are fine and I just replaced all of the seals.

Please let me know what you think.

    Thanks guys!

It doesn't look like they are the same part. Different part numbers anyway. That's not to say it won't work though. Yamaha parts can be interchangeable sometimes. Only way to tell for sure is to try.

    Sorry... not much help.

If you go with the Seca forks, you may need to change your brake calipers too. At least I know that the '82 Seca 650 calipers mount differently from the '83 Maxim 750 calipers. I would assume that the Seca brakes are the same from 650-750, but someone please correct me if I'm mistaken.

I suppose you could have an adaptor plate machined but it would probably be much easier and lest costly to just pick up some extra calipers, even if you have to rebuild them.

    Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I am mainly just looking for the innertubes of the forks. I don't need the outer tubes where the calipers attach. I am looking to remove my inner calipers and replace them with some straight ones that I can hopefully find used.

Does anyone happen to have the forks from an '83 XJ750 that I can purchase? I just can't find the correct one on Ebay.

I also have a question along the same lines. Will the forks from an 82 650 special fit on an 82 xj650? Thanks

Yamaha is very good about interchangeability. many times the only reason there is a part number different is due to color difference. Your best bet would be to check the steering stem to see if it is the same stem. If so you can probably bolt it right into place. You may need to move over the complete front end with triples and you may not need to. For instance:

We have swapped Vmax front ends to the Yamaha FZX-Fazers. The vmax's even had different forks and as long as you swap the entire triple then it all moves over well.

We have put FZR600 front ends on the Fzx's too. We have used just the tubes on one bike and the entire front end on another (with the clip-ons even).

We have installed FZR1000 complete front ends on both bikes.

I have installed an R1 front end on the Vmax by swapping out the stem to the R1 lower tripple then making a custom top triple (with drop since they are much shorter in length).
