    So I have just replaced my front fork seals and they are now leaking worse than the old ones. This not my first go around replacing these seals but these are the first on this bike. It's an XJ650 maxim. Is there any reason this should be happening or should I expect that perhaps the dealer gave me the wrong ones?

    There are three possible causes:

    -fork tubes are pitted or otherwise damaged in the area swept by the seals;

    -seals are incorrect;

    -damaged during installation.

    Nope no pitting there is no rust or anything on the chrome uppers. I think they are the wrong ones. Damage I suppose but on both sides? I don't think so they where pretty easy to press in there

    Did you replace the circa-clips? They can be weakened with time, or they can be fatigued or slightly bent on removal.

    May I suggest another couple of options?
    1. What weight oil did you put back in? I used 10w on my XJ600 and was advised by a motorcycle mechanic to go to 20w. This was to restore the damping as the other components were worn. I wonder if this allows extra oil pressure so some oil forces its way past the seals.

    2. The seals are not of a good quality? They fit but don't seal very well.

    You didn't put too much oil in the forks did you?
