    I have a question about the Front Master Cylinder, which is the same issue that everyone on here seems to have. That being the screws and resevoir itself are just beat to hell.

    So I decided I would just buy a new one, either OEM or Aftermarket.

    So my question is could anyone show/tell me a the difference between the ones Chacal has and the one Bike Bandit sells... Chacal also sells an aftermarket one, but I found one on DCC that seems legit (I've bought stuff from there before).

    I guess my biggest dilemma is that I like to see what I'm buying and know its the best deal, but Chacal doesn't have pics of items and I'm unsure what the difference between the OEM from Bike Bandit and Chacal, as it seems Bike Bandit is a little cheaper.

    Thanks for any help.

    So the OEM ones from Chacal are:
    HCP3063 Aftermarket complete MASTER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY, brand new aftermarket unit perfectly replaces your original. Comes with cover, diaphram, piston assembly, hand lever, brake light switch, mounting hardware, union bolt, and crush washer----completely ready to install. Fits all North American XJ550 models, although the hand lever that comes with this master cylinder will not have the same bend orientation as original. 13mm piston bore, horizontally level reservoir orientation, forward-facing fluid outlet port. NOTE: this aftermarket master cylinders can also be used in place of the original master cylinder on XJ650 Maxim and Midnight Maxim models, as well as all XJ1100 models, but because those are "level" orientation master cylinders, they will place the mirror mounting boss in a different position (and odd angle) compared to the original master cylinders on those models.
    $ 89.00

    HCP3014 OEM complete MASTER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY, brand new unit perfectly replaces your original. Comes with cover, diaphram, clamp, and piston assembly, ready to install. Hand lever, brake light switch, and mounting hardware is not included. Fits all XJ650 Maxim and Midnight Maxim models. Mounting clamp is included. 14mm piston bore, horizontally tilted down reservoir orientation, towards-the-bike-centerline fluid outlet port. NOTE: the HCP3018 master cylinder listed below will fit in the same manner and style as this cylinder, but it has a larger-capacity reservoir and piston bore. NOTE: both the HCP3063 or HCP1808 aftermarket master cylinders can be used in place of the original master cylinder on these models, but because those are "level" orientation master cylinders, they will place the mirror mounting boss in a different position (and odd angle) compared to the original master cylinders.
    $ 159.00

    HCP6277 OEM complete MASTER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY, brand new unit perfectly replaces your original. Comes with cover, diaphram, and piston assembly, ready to install. Hand lever, brake light switch, and mounting hardware is not included. Fits all XJ650 Turbo models. 16mm piston bore, horizontally level reservoir orientation, forward-facing fluid outlet port.
    $ 219.00

    HCP3015 OEM complete MASTER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY, brand new unit perfectly replaces your original. Comes with cover, diaphram, low fluid sensor, clamp, and piston assembly, ready to install. Hand lever, brake light switch, and mounting hardware is not included. Fits all XJ550 non-North American models, 1982 XJ650RJ or RJC Seca models, all non-North American XJ650 models, all XJ700 models, 1984 XJ750RL, all XJ900RK Seca models, and all XJ900RL models. Mounting clamp is included. 16mm piston bore, horizontally level reservoir orientation, forward-facing fluid outlet port.
    $ 249.00

    Then there's the one from BikeBandit:
    FRONT MASTER CYLINDER

    and last but not least, from DCC:
    7/8" Universal Nissin Hydraulic Front Brake Master Cylinder

    First off, Bike Bandit is just "passing through" a Yamaha parts order and you may wait quite a while before it gets filled.

    The choices from chacal are basically either LEVEL reservoir, or ANGLED reservoir, in both "sizes" depending on whether you have a single or dual discs.

    What bike do you have; and does it have the stock "buckhorn/pullback" bars, requiring the angled type, or do you need a more level reservoir because of straighter aftermarket bars?

    The "universal" unit will not have a threaded mirror perch, or if it does it probably won't be reverse threaded for Yamaha mirrors.

    Then I would go with the LEVEL-reservoir unit for single-disc systems, the same one that's on the North American-market 550s.

    That would be HCP3461 for the OEM or HCP3063 for the aftermarket unit.

    If you get the one that's "specified" for your bike's original bars, it will have the reservoir tilted at an odd angle when you mount it on flatter bars.

    If anyone can still see this, I was wondering if the angled reservoir is an issue safety/functionality wise, or just appearance?

    Safety. Because of not being level the fluid will be far too low in some situations, making the front brake inoperative.

    I bought a universal fit Nissin front M/C a few years back for a CM400 Honda I built. It was a fantastic buy, worked flawlessly and I would recommend one to anyone. It has a "detached" reservoir with an aluminum bracket that I was able to mount anywhere, at any angle. I also had drag bars on that bike.

    Ahh the same I can get it cheaper over here and the picture looks like it.. xj4Ever everything I have ordered have been perfect and great quality. I'm kinda of the mind set I ordered some brake pads off of eBay seller claimed they would fit. They were completely wrong made in China so when I tried to return that turned into a joke so basically I was out 20$ Should have saved myself the trouble and ordered from Chacal.

    the holes in the pads have to be filed into an oval to fit on the pin

    Oh it was worse I would have had to cut off 2 shoulders of the pad... but yes the pin would not fit.
