Hi. I have a 1999 XJ600n. I bought it in April, it must have been worn for quite a while, I’m having a few problems with her. The main one concerns me is the front wheel wobble at 40-50Mph. I’ve had a steering damper fitted, it hasn’t solved the problem. Is it an inherent problem on this model of bike. Please help.

I would be thinking wheel bearings and steering head bearings and making sure everything related to the fork and steering head is properly tight, not over tight but properly snug without play. And check the alignment of the fork legs in the triple clamps and with the rest of the frame and rear wheel. And check for cracks or bends in frame tubes, look for wrinkles or cracks in the paint on the frame tubes. Check the rear wheel bearings and swing arm bearings and tension as well.

    Depends.
Is it wobbling with both hands off the bars?
Many bikes have an inherent wobble like that, usually around 30-40mph.
Solution: keep at least one hand on the bars.
Other than that, it could be a dodgy tyre, or a badly fitted one (check the alignment rib around the sidewall is evenly spaced from the rim - that's very common).
Other causes are covered by Fuller.
