what is the best filter to use? I see plastic and glass inline filters. Seems like glass might be more resistant to heat. 1/4 inch nipple?

I picked up a cheap small engine one from my local Advance Auto Parts. It is plastic but hasn't done me wrong yet. Survived over a year with a tank full of rust and tank liner particles floating around in the tank and its still going.

EDIT: The filter I use is plastic with one of those 'stone' filter elements inside. It was clear when I bought it and it has started to turn yellow, but still keeps the fuel clean. I can see some flecks of dirt in it (on the tank side) that it has successfully kept out of my carbs and engine, so I would recommend it.

The glass ones with the white screen with little square holes - are useless because you already have a fine (no pun) screen in the tank.

I just don't trust Sintered Bronze - it would seem to clog or not flow enough, but it is preferred by many.

That leaves me with Paper in a clear plastic housing - technology I can understand, inspect, and throw away. As cheep as $0.75 at swap meets and fleas.

I use a small aftermaket in-line fuel filter from Napa.
    I haven't had a problem since.
I might add that I ran it about 2yrs and then changed it out...

Good insurance from having to do carb work instead of riding!! :)
