Carbs are bench synched - last thing to do is set fuel levels before I fire this puppy up!

1982 Maxim 750J with HSC32's - I set the float heights at a solid 17.5 mm but levels are coming out low (5-6mm below carb body) all across the rack.. specs say 3mm +/- 1mm, right?

So I'm gonna pull the bowls and lower float heights 2-3 mm per carb.. should get me close I think?

Just wanted the pro's opinions on this, any help or advice is appreciated.. would love to fire this puppy up tonight! :)

Will add a couple pics as soon as I can find some batteries for the camera

Anything looks off here to you? This one's actually about 7.5 below the carb body I guess.

Here's a shot of the carbs before cleaning. I saw a thread somewhere that made me think maybe these were HSC33's because of the little ramp on the hats but the markings on the bowl says HSC32 (which should be correct for the bike). Maybe someone just switched out the hats at some point?

    Thanks for looking!

The hitachi carbs have the ramp. The mikunis do not. What you have is correct.

However; I wouldn't run that 10W40 in the summer.

Recommended oil for your XJ is 20W40 in temps above 60; since 20W40 is hard to find, 20W50 is fine. You can run 10W30 if it's real cold out; I wouldn't run 10W40 in warmer weather.

Ah, good eye BigFitz, good eye! Thanks for the head's up! I can't remember where I got that idea in my head but I thought that was the recommended viscosity.. do you think it'll be okay to run a little while while synching and tuning carbs and whatnot? Maybe let it flush the system a little before I switch?

I assume I'm on the right track with fuel levels then?

    Thanks for looking!
