Well as you all know the fuel prices are going up again. We all have an advantage with motorcycles having pretty good fuel milage. But I was wondering what one can do to increse there fuel milage.

Is there any aftermarket parts you can put on, tuning that can be done, fuel type to put in, oil weight recomendation or anything you can think of.

I use my motorcycle for commuting to work and a light grocery getter. I also like to go on long rides.

Jut trying to save a few bucks, as we all like to do.

To increase the bikes "Economy" ... you need to run LESS fuel through it.

Very bad idea! Harmful and dangerous. Might cost you your engine if you start Jetting the Mixture too LEAN.

    LEAN is Bad!
LEAN generates more heat at the moment of combustion.
LEAN burns hotter and heat is the enemy of small engines.
LEAN burns-up all the fuel including the sheen of Oil intended to lubricate the Cylinder Wall.
    LEAN can KILL the engine.
    You might:
    Burn a Valve.
    Burn a Valve Seat.
    Warp the Head.
    Crack the Head.
    Blow a Gasket.
    Crack Piston Rings.
Score Cylinder Walls and burn oil.
Weld a hole right through the top of a piston.

You can make the engine run lean.
But, you'll wind-up reaching into your Bank Account to undo the damage done.
    It's not worth it!

There's no magic bullet...the easiest way is to have a well-tuned bike, use regular gas if you aren't already doing so, and don't twist the throttle open quite as much.

The key to top fuel economy is to optimize and tweak for efficiency. Avoid jack-rabbit starts, roll on the throttle smoothly, use your brakes as little as possible (this means don't tail-gate or sit too close, necessitating panic stops), keep your bearings properly lubed and packed (same thing, just like the sound of it), keep the tires properly inflated to specs for your load, and keep a regular maintenance schedual. Bosozoku answer is probably the best your going to get.

Yea, all those idea's as well as.

Install Rusty's new Cable Ejector lanyard with high strength magnet connected to 12Vdc and a thumb switch for activation on your handle bar.

This way every vehicle you get behind, you can have a GRAB a TOW on Demand system when your going to be knocking down a few miles on the Freeway.

There's nothing like the Gas Mileage you can achieve by idling or switching the engine off and cruising at 70mph free of charge !!!!

Installs Universally on all Motorcycles, the System is $2400. payment can be made through Paypal to my Email address, system guaranteed to pay for itself by your 200th tank fillup at $2.50 a gallon on a 5 gallon Tank.

    fine print below:
There is a (use at your own risk clause waiver that must be signed.)

I completely understand this, I dont want to harm my bike in any way. I was just wondering if there was any parts that may help on the fuel. After reading the above answers I guess that not hammering the bike (which I dont usually do) and keeping it in good repair is the best answer.

    Thanks for the replies.

I guess Im going to clean my carbs out and give it a good tune up now. Now if I can only talk my wife into letting me buy a colortune....

Sadly, that guy looks waaaaaaaay cooler on that scooter than I would on any bike...

Its tough being tall and lanky, and frankly, on a bike, it just looks silly.

    But I'm ok with that.

    Looks silly???
No, no ... you got that all wrong!

If you're on a Clean-Machine ... and the Machine looks good ... and the Machine sounds good ... and the Machine is tuned ... and the Machine can GO ... and the Machine catches the admiring glances of all who are not aboard the Machine; but are watching you and The Machine ... and The Machine is yours ...

Them that's lookin' all wish they were you.
