fuel pump 1994 xj600

    Can anyone tell me if the fuel pump for a xj600 should have a vacuum reading on the suction side of the fuel pump,also what the pressure reading on the discharge of the fuel pump.
    The engine starves for fuel going through a xj fuel filter,it don't matter if its a new filter.The fuel filter is on the suction side of the fuel pump.If I remove the fuel filter it runs better but no right.

    Has anyone used a electric fuel pump on a xj600 and if you have,what was it off of.
