Fuse box cross-model application

    Does the fuse box and wiring match across the XJ 550, 650 and 750 series? From what I've seen it does but I'm looking for verification before I jump too far into the fuse box upgrade kits. I can make one for a different size and fuse layout I just need measurements and a pic of the layout/wiring.

    550 max and seca, 650 max and seca. same box. the same box is used in as the 82 and 83 maxim 750, except the 750 has a rubber mount wraped around it to locate mounting holes off center it is removable.
    also same as XJ900RK.
    the 82 maxim 750 has a 30 amp main fuse

    ignition

    some like to have extra spaces to add things

    OK. the setup will be 30A max just swap fuses. I will get a final draft done and look into making one for my 550. As long as the fuse setup is glass clips in similar spacing then one board will work them all.

    1.450" x 2.275" final dimensions should fit in the existing fuse shell.

    this might be a dumb question, but why change the fuse box?

    I know that glass fuses are more delicate, but when the bikes were made, they worked well enough.
    I can still buy glass fuses, fairly common, but the newer styles are definitely more popular.
    I just don't see a reason yet

    The terminals for the AGC fuses get brittle and split just enough to cause intermittent power issues. Both of the 1982 fuse boxes I own fell apart when I tried swapping out the fuses. I don't like the in-line fuses I have so I'm making a replacement board to hold ATM-LP and use the stock setup.

    there is a 650 fuse box oem style that shows up on ebay from time to time. what they do which is a nice feture is the wires from fuse box go into a connector and they supply a connector for the wires coming from main harness makes for a neat install. makes it easy to replace without having to cut existing wires even shorter if ever needed and eliminates all the butt connectors or solder joints

    My fuse box only had one fuse , the PO had put some loose blade fuse holders , looked horrible so replaced with a blade fuse block this cleaned up the birds nest of wires . My 82 Honda CB750 glass fuse block had one fuse holder that was in bad condition , had to repair another reason i prefer the blade type fuse block.

    I thought about that as well. I am considering the same 8-pin that is on the harness as a deluxe version kit. You will need a crimper with the small W anvil to correctly terminate the pins, though. Pliers won't work and solder blobs can cause housing lock problems. The solder-on basic kit would be a simple strip and solder for 8 wires.

    My PC crapped out. Spent the past 4 days rebuilding it and recovering data. I'll have to redo the board layout.
