got intermittent TAIL going on and checked easy stuff and figured it was finally time to bite down on replacing fuse block. gnawed-out tiny plate to fit existing shock mounts (attached) and dropped Len's stylin' replacement in there and was all proud of myself until it didn't fit ;)

no clue where to really put it, and it didn't fix my TAIL, but at least I got it hanging on the frontmost screw and called it a day and ran to taco bell by the 1am buzzer. needs to be redone another day...

after some searching, somebody mentioned something inline on the way to the tail lamps that's supposed to slightly modulate them during braking. where might a guy look to find that thing (and any other wisdom that might help)?

    thanks

The tail light circuit does not pass thru the fusebox (directly); the large blue wire coming off the main switch (key switch) powers the tail light circuit. The blue wire coming off the main switch does have an in-line fuse holder that protects that circuit.

The brake light circuit is powered from the brown wire coming off the SIGNAL circuit in the fusebox.

There is a 4-place connector that has a solid yellow wire, a solid blue wire, a blue wire with a white tracer stripe, and a solid black wire which powers the tail and brake lights.

You might have a bad connection at that joint, a bad ground, or the bulb sockets are corroded.

it's truly humbling to be in the presence of such knowledge and facility to retrieve it... If memory (of searching here) serves, the TAIL alarm happens when there is not 880mA (non-braking) so I assumed it was non-braking only but thanks for another lesson. I swear, when all the other bikes in the world are in boneyards, the contribution of parts & spirit from this place will win the most active road units in the end!

Friend of mine had the same problem, turned out to be a bad filament in the bulb. Like chacal said it could be many things, start at the bulb and work your way to the source. Have fun.

yunno the lamps worked so i thought no problem. cleaned everything in the rear end, reinstalled lamps and only one worked. flipped them and the working moved with the lamp move--aha! off to auto supply place at 645pm on a sunday...tough finding good lamp cross help :|

they have nothing, i take a flier on some 8.4w 1157s.

for kicks, i retry my 12v32/3CP bulbs and now neither works. stick in both 1157's and they both work. erm. the odds are not with both lamps failing at the exact same time so i can only conclude that i wiggled stuff just right when installing the new 1157's...so i did it again and again and again and it always worked--even when going out of my way to position everything completely differently.

so i don't have any answer, but the extra current (i think?) makes the alarm go away. well, that's not a solution, i know, so I gotta find the proper lamps and see what happens.

thanks for the steers. i don't know what i have yet but this was making me crazy and at least it's different now so i'm happy :)
