    Hi folks,

Just thought I'd share one of the things I came across during recent work on my bike.

I had decided to change the fuel sender gasket and modify the way I was getting 12V to my in-tank fuel pump (which is through the sender mounting plate). While I had the sender out, I also wanted to see if I could tweak it's reading, since it was only showing full when the tank was REALLY full, and would drop to three bars very quickly - like in a few minutes... vice versa, it was showing empty while there was still close to 2 gallons in the tank.

First thing I checked was the sender's range of motion in the tank... this looked correct, so I didn't mess with it. I then opened up the little box that covers the sensor element (held on with three bent tabs). Inside I found a wiper arm and a wirewound resistor for a pot. Range was about 32 Ohms at "Full" to about 335 Ohms at "Empty". The wiper is attached to the sensor arm with a little lock screw. I hooked the sensor back up the bike, loosened the screw, and played around a bit with different positions of the wiper relative to the sensor arm. End result for me was that I felt I had a better range (for instance, really going to two bars at half a tank) with the thing adjusted to about 20 Ohms "Full" and 322 Ohms "Empty"

    (Sorry, no pictures)

    Cheers,
    Paul
