Had a rotor fail [ Never even knew this was possible previuously]
    Go! Yamaha.
Anyhow, rebuilts , according to the locals are Crap. They often fail by season's end. No rewinder uses enough epoxy and the windings shake off.. Wonderfull. Chinese knock offs are similarily garbage.. Avoid trebuilds and copies is the universal advise..
Finally found that certain Yama models rotors fail while others do not apparently there are differences in quality even from OEM. Luckily [ pure chance actually] I found an 'almost' exact oem yama replacement. at a wreckers. [$50] which , with a bit of Bodgery ...Fits/works Fine.
    Caveat Emptor... Boys 'n Girls.

HOW exactly did it fail? Just stop doing its job or were there other symptoms?

Rebuilt components vary from pure crap to better than the original. I've been in the business for 15 years, and worked for Delco rebuilding plenty of rotors. A good varnish set-up is costly. They have to withstand hours of high temps and vibrations. Eventually the material breaks down and then the magnet wire vibrates and breaks, or the slip ring connection breaks, or the whole winding can burn up. There are good quality rebuilt rotors that will last a long life, but the problem is knowing where to find one.

The rebuilt rotors and stators that I offer are rebuilt here in the USA (amazing, huh?) and are of extremely high quality.....never had a report of any failures.

But none of them have been in service for 25 years

Technically speaking, since they are re-wound originals, most of them have been in service for more than 25 years..........at least, in their previous lives.........! :D

Apparently the Rotor failed due to internal wire breakage. Alegedly it's typical on these oldsters. Who woulda known?

Astoundingly luckily, I found a much younger used Yama one from a large wrecker for $50. Presumably it has a decade or so left in it.
    It looks pristine at least.
I only posted to illustrate what 2 days of frustration and panic  resulted in.
