Does anybody know if an FZ instrument cluster would work on an '82 Maxim? I saw some on ebay and I like their looks/functions. I'm not sure how I'd find out but was hoping somebody here might know or might be able to point me in a direction where I can research it myself.

    Thanks,
    mikeg

    The quick answer is maybe.
I've got an FZR out back and I'm convinced it would work but it isn't a bolt up unless you get the later year FZR panel.
This contingency is also based upon how electrically savvy you are and you abilities to bend metal to make brackets. I'd do it if I got the notion so if the bug bit you, go for it!

I grafted a set of gauges from a Suzuki onto my XJ750, and it wasn't too hard, so I'd imagine the FZ would be a pretty easy swap.

You'll need to work out which wires go to what warning lights (obviously), as they may not be the same colour between the models. And more than likely the connectors will be a different type / pin number, so you'll be up for a bit of soldering / crimping / pin re-locating.

But if you have both sets of gauges it's simply a matter of dismantling each and noting the wire colours for each warning light (no need for wiring diagrams :D ).

A bit tedious, yes.......but not difficult.
