Here is the finished product of an '86 FZ 600 front end on my '82 Maxim. Dual front rotors and an improved dampening system in the forks. New front tire size is 16 inches. There has been no noticeable change in handling and I have rode ove 3,000 miles since installing. Including my trip through Bear Tooth Pass. There is virtually no fork dive, even in heavy braking with a passenger. I'm diggin' it and highly recommend such a switch.

It was a fairly straight forward switch. Also notice my new pegs...they are from a 2005 Suzuki Boulevard M109R. I had to drill out the pin holes about 1/16 of an inch but they look and feel great.

That is true, the dampening system is an internal valve that the Maxim forks did not have.

wow that front rim actually kinda matches too, instead of 5x2 swirly spokes it has 3x2 spokes, which goes pretty good... where did you get the front end and how much

I actually got the front end set up from a friend who was gonna throw it out. I replaced the fork springs, seals, wheel bearings, and brake pads. I have seen them on Craig's list and such for as low as $75. it didn't come with a master cylinder so I used the master cylinder and line splitter from a 750 Maxim. Bolted right up. Yeah the rim matched pretty good. If it would have been really different I wouldn't have done it. I like function but I also like form. As far as riding with ice on the ground...Not really mty thing. I will ride in any temp but with onlt two wheels, ice becomes quite unfriendly. I have thought about it though.

Old post but curious, did you slide the fz forks right into the max trees or swap the whole tree from the fz?

^^^^^^ Kind of curious about that myself. Looks like hes running the stock tree but maybe some fit up details ;). Also Bane due to the mounting location of the front axle did you actually loose an inch from the overall wheel base?
