to start off, yes i have searched on this. the only thing i found that was promising was a swap onto a newer xj, so the rims looked good swapped over.

    Here is the story:

    What i have:

    82 xj650

    The issue:

Leaking fork seals.....Now soaked the brake pads so stopping sucks....
    Single rotor braking capabilities
    Soft springs
    Old school technology

    The donor bike:

    94 FZR600
This is my room mate's bike, and he is going to put the motor in a quad we have here..... Why not?

Free front end setup for me!!!

so what i need to know is will my original wheel be usable? because if it is not i will have to think of something else, as i LOVE the vintage look with this bike. I measure the bolt distance for the brake rotors and they are (roughly) 1 5/8" on both bikes.

So the real question here for the experienced people on this site (unlike myself) with these older bikes, is what should i look out for, or work into my project that will make this swap seamless/ work properly?

Any info you guys have, please share with me, as i will be sharing this swap with you guys and we will see how it comes out.

    thanks!

as some of you may ask, yes the ruler is " center - to - center", even though the photo doesnt look like it.

You will have to swap the tree, the forks are a different size I believe. As for the wheel, you will probably have to make spcers of some sort for the calipers, I am going to guess as from some experience, that the axle is smaller diameter on the fzr, than the xj. Be sure to use the fzr master cylinder, too.

Your trail will be different, as the FZR forks aren't leading axle. But the rotors are definitely the same bolt pattern. Late model Ducatis use the same patter for the rotors, as well.
