Does anyone know where to get a bobber tank that fits on the frame about the same way as the xj do? I would use my stock tank but the tab at the bottom where the bolt is supposed to go just doesn't look right. Thanks in advance.

Do a search on here, this topic has been discussed numerous times. Not a lot of options for something that doesn't require some fabrication work.

If you've got a welder, some scrap metal, and a whole lot of patience you can mount whatever tank you want!

Otherwise you're pretty limited. For example, I found a CB400 hawk tank that I thought looked like a good fit on the standard front tank mounts. "Yes!" I thought, "An easy cool tank that no one has on their XJ!" Well, after I took all of that thick rubber off of the frame mounts and also pounded the inside of the tank for about an hour, the tank "fit."

Then I had to find rubber mounts that would fit on the XJ frame mounts, but also fit in the little Honda tank mounts. Those took about an hour with an exacto knife before they would work.

At that point the tank would slide on to the bike, but then what about the lean angle? And what about the fitment as far as length? It's much shorter than the maxim tank, and also sits much higher at the rear since im going for a straight line cafe racer look. I'm also building a custom fiberglass seat so I can cover up the awkward rear tank opening.

But I still need it mounted at the rear! So now after many measurements and test welds, I have almost created a prototype mount that will work...but I still need to make the actual mount, then weld it to the frame.

Looking up at that, and the countless hours I've already spent on the tank itself, I wonder to myself "Should I have just picked up a SECA tank?"

No, because it's rewarding and different, but even so, half of the work was done for me on the Honda tank (front mounts) and it STILL is a crapload of work to do it right.

Sorry for the rant, but I was/am literally in your shoes and my point is that it takes a lot of work and time if you're going to do it correctly (for me at least).
