    Hi there fellow bikers, I

am obviously pretty new here only joined today.. I have recently sold off my old bikes, to put tyhe money into my small hydraulics business. Will be looking at getting another bike at some stage soon.. getting withdrawal symptoms.
My other passion is fibre glass and working with silicones, latex, and other bits and pieces. Over the last two years i have taken on a few projects making parts for people. Helps pay the old ebay habit now and then.
I have a thing for the older bikes, 1979-1986 seem to be the best years for bikes in my opinion.. Too much electronics on these new ones.. Nice as they are at times..

But thats enough of me for now, i look forward to the banter and whatever may come..

    Welcome from Ontario, Canada!

Don't forget to update your location in your signature, for when you get a bike (again) and possibly need help! I have to agree with your sentiment, nothing like simplicity when you're doing the work yourself and those vintages (79-86) follow that to a tee for the most part.

Welcome - As you can see by my list of bikes I am not new to the sport. About two yesrs ago I became interested in getting that feeling again and found my XJ550 not far away so I purchased it. I always wished I had owned a Honda 750 four and was actually on the hunt for one of these to restore when I found this Yamaha four cylinder. I figured since with the exception of the Yamaha 750 twin with OMNI-PHASE BALANCING which was a total disaster they made a good product. Imagine this two counterbalance weights driven by a non-adjustable chain off the crankshaft spinning in the opposite directions to dampen the vibration caused by a big bore twin. Well Yamaha looked after the repair but I never trusted this bike again and sold it shorty afterward. ( the chain broke and one of the weights broke the bottom wings off one of the pistons lol ) This bike was Yamaha's two cyclinder answer to the four cyclinder Honda's and probably the big reasons Yamaha started producing these four cylinder XJ bikes instead. Let me just say that my desire to restore a Honda is gone since having this bike. I would recommend having one of the bikes to anyone, buying a manual and visting this site for the valuable information available from the moderators and other members. Here's hoping you find an XJ that you like and you contribute to helping other members of our clan in the future. P.S. I'm not on the payroll lol
