    Okay experts,

Found this bike listed as a parts bike on Craiglist for $550.00. Guy says it has been in dry storage. But he says he lost the title. He sent me pics and before I could even answer he dropped the price to $450.00. It's an 85 Maxim-X which would indeed serve as a good parts bike for my 86. Looks like somewhere along the line he or someone modified the carbs...the air box seems to have been removed. Mine is stock.

If you are the registered owner, and the bike was titled in NC you can get a duplicate for $15.00 (mandatory 15 day waiting period).

Should I hold out? If I buy without the title all it will ever be is a parts bike.

State laws vary, however, if you have a bill of sale and it has been some time since the bike has been registered, most states have a way for you to get a new title issued. You might want to contact your DMV/BMV equivelant down there in NC. From the pic it looks like it is in great shape and all there. Even as a parts bike $450 is probably a great deal. You could sell the parts for well over that.

It would be a shame to part it out. Get her back on the road.

Looks to be worth the $450 he is asking. If you have the patience to deal with the title issues and can work through them, it is definitely worth it.

Would hate to see it parted, but it is definitely worth the price considering that would be the worst case.

I paid $400 for mine w/ title, and that one looks to be in a little better shape on the outside if you take the pods out of consideration.

If you buy it and decide to part it, I would like to call dibs on the gauges and carb covers. :)

You can get a title Artie, it will cost a couple of hunderd if it is lost and the current owner has no idea who has the title. If it was titled in their name just go to the DMV and apply for a lost title, cost less than 100 to get it transfered to your name. BUY IT ,, If you don't send me the information and I will. I've been looking for one for my daughter.
    BUY IT , BUY IT

Thanks fo rthe itp Artie. I picked it up this Sunday. Bike look nice, just needs a good cleaning. Put a battery in it and it will fire with some starting fluid, carbs need to be cleaned. Should not take very long to have it road ready.

The easiest way to get title, as I understand it, is if you have a friend at a shop who will submit a request for title based upon it being an abandoned vehicle that someone left to be worked on and never picked up. They then transfer title to you. Going by the above title recovery method, you have to track down the last registered owner and get them to submit the paperwork and then title it over to you. You may or may not find them, they may or may not be willing to file the lost title request, and then they may or may not be willing to sign it over to you.

First thing you have to do (before you even test ride it)...is get a nice new 4x1 exhaust and send the old junky poor performing exhaust to me. I'll pay the freight and take it off your hands.
Those silly looking chrome air-box covers really hinder your performance....send those too!

YES....I'm still looking for a suitable exhaust for the other X

I want to get it running first, then start making changes like that. I would like to find the stock aitbox and reinstall it. If anyone has a nice complete one I'm interested.
