Every cloud has a silver lining?

After kicking myself for selling my XJ600 (It was too big to commute on to work), there may be an opportunity to purchase a 1989 GSXR Suzuki. Lets just say for not very much - I know the owner and this is his second bike which he doesn't have time to get roadworthy to sell.

It needs a couple of things like tyres and maybe a bit of attention to the exhaust but apart from that looks all standard (No horrible streetfighter mods!).

    Any thoughts? - apart from a 750 is bigger than a 600!

I test road a GSXR 750, about the same year your looking at.

WOULD NOT like to commute on one, you have to set on it like a jockey (knees against chin).

But for a short ride every once in a while, go for it.

horrible street fighter mods?!?!?! what chu talkin about.

if you can get it cheap, spit shine it and get it road worthy and make a dime or two, then you can put it towards a bike you want...

but if the xj 600 was too big... than this would also be

When you fall off and smash up all the expensive fairings. Chuck them in the bin and call it a "Streetfighter". Those ones.

That's the problem with early Gixxers. You drop it, you never find parts for it. That's why it's tough to find a clean example.

It won't be as comfortable as the xj600. It may be a tad smaller. It'll be a lot faster.

I say get it if you can. I don't know about where you live, but original GSXR's are becoming very scarce on this side of the pond, especially the first gen.

    Here's my 86 1100, and my 87 Japanese gray market GSXR 50

I just remembered what I like about Suzuki's too! NICE! although all that leaning over would kill me now-a-days.

It's a 1989 in original red and white factory colours.
    Yes, 112bhp vs 72!

That GSXR 50 has to be one of the coolest bikes I have ever seen. I would love to find one for myself.

If it is "not much money" you will not lose out buying a GSXR. Have a look at oldskoolsuzuki and you see how sought after they are...in any condition...

Very collectable and sought after in the UK. Another very fun sports bike. I would go for it. ( Suzukis were good enough for Barry Sheene so they are more than good enough for me :) )
