Okay i have an 81 750 seca with the goofy square guage/computer. My buddy has and 83 maxim 550 and I want to put a set of gueages like his on my bike . Will the speedo and tach work? I know i will probably have to find someway to mount theam and wire up the indicator lights but I think I can figure that out.
    Thanks

Odds are they'll work. Looking over the wiring schematics, it doesn't appear that the bikes were all that different. You'll likely have to remove the harnesses but most everything should match up ok.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the 750 is an electronic tach and the 550 is definately a mechanical(cable) tach like the speedo.

Apart from that a little creative wiring should allow it to work.

So I did some checking and your right HG. The 750 tach is electrical.

So I retract my previous statement about it not being much different. I was looking purely at the electrical aspect, didn't even take into account the style of the gagues.

Can I adapt a set of guages off of a different bike or would I be better off buying aftermarket ones?

if you can find aftermarket...it'll be expensive!!!... i picked up a couple a round speedos off of a guy for 5 bucks...gonna get a lil' mini tach off some wrecked hot rod in the junk yard... if you do find an aftermarket setup for cheap let me know... good luck

This weekend I'll be attempting to install a mini speedo&tach from www.mikesxs.com (part # 03-0745 and 03-0744). According to FedEx they'll be here on Thursday.

It's not the cheapest way to go but it's also certainly not the most expensive either. The only "trouble" I'm expecting is wiring the the LED sensor lights. I'm expecting I'll need to use a resistor ( 3 or 6?) on each.

By god I think your right....

I saw the speedo, fell in love with it and wanted the matching tach. I didn't pay nearly enough attention.

Guess I'll find out Thursday 8O

If that is the case I doubt I'll be able to find a matching tach...maybe I'll run just the speedometer.

Now i'm frustrated withmyself for not emailing the store first and asking.

Always check stuff like that before ordering online.
