My understanding is that the guardian bell must be received as a gift to have any magic mojo.

I also heard of them referred to as Gremlin bells - keeps the gremlins away. . .

    I don't have one.

I have a helmet, jacket, pants, gloves, boots, and situational awareness. No bell will do anything to improve on that.

I'm more inclined to say don't OVER-estimate the power of voodoo.

But, I doubt any on here would think a bell is a good replacement for common sense, so what the hey, an extra kick couldn't hurt =)

Small bell, hang off your axle or close, s'posed to ward off bad mojo, keep you safe, avoid accidents, etc. As mentioned above, must ( or should ) be given as gift to attain max mojo factor.

As the saying goes, if you think you are lucky, and that luck will get you through, then you are living on borrowed time.

Another way to say it is that luck favors the prepared.

I have a few "lucky" totems in my life, but I would rely on none of them to actually do anything to save me from the world around me. Without getting in to a whole debate on religion, it is entirely up to ME to get me safely through my day.

No way would I rely solely on ME to safely make it through the day. I try to be as safe as possible at all times but I'm sure I give the Lord a good workout........

Quotes for truth. I'm not superstitious, and until someone can prove the claim that they have any positive effect, it's just a pretty bangle, nothing more.

No evidence doesn't mean it's not true, but it does mean that any claims that it IS true is entirely anecdotal, and thus uncompelling to me.

To paraphrase someone else, the more careful I am, the more luck I seem to have

Homer: Not a bear in sight. The Bear Patrol must be working like a charm.

    Lisa: That’s specious reasoning, Dad.

    Homer: Thank you, dear.

Lisa: By your logic I could claim that this rock keeps tigers away.

Homer: Oh, how does it work?

    Lisa: It doesn’t work.

    Homer: Uh-huh.

Lisa: It’s just a stupid rock.

    Homer: Uh-huh.

Lisa: But I don’t see any tigers around, do you?

Homer: Lisa, I want to buy your rock.

Your missing the point guy's it's not for you!
It's for your loved ones to let you know they care and want you home safe.
The idea of one on my bike would make me cringe but if my wife or kids gave me one as a gift I'd find a place to hang it.
No different to a catholic with a crucifix it's kinda cute but surely you wouldn't take it seriously......oh wait

I have one, given to me by my best friend. I don't believe that it does anything but look nice and ring... not that you can hear it over the engine, rendering it utterly useless.

However, I like to think of it this way: it was given to me by someone that cares about me. When I do hear it ring, that's a reminder to me that there are people who want me safe - not just my friend, but my wife, my family, coworkers, general good Samaritans, random ODOT workers and ambulance drivers who don't want to have to scrape me off the pavement. Therefore, I should gear-up, keep up on maintenance, drive defensively, assume everyone on the road is out to get me, assume that no one on the road can see or hear me, etc etc etc.

So in a way, the bell does have an effect.

I see, you have a bell to remind you to do all that

Anyhow, even if the whole world wanted me dead, I'm not about to give them the pleasure
