Hey I've owned my Maxim for about a year now and it's been just great in every way, starts and runs great (fresh set of NGK's), great performance and economy (46MPG), and the ride and handling are pretty decent however my question is about cold starts and the choke (enrichener) lever. On cold starts I move he choke to the left about a third of its travel and hit the start button, the engine roars to life and revs up between 2500-3000 rpm, so I'll move the lever ever-so-slightly to the right and the engine will nearly stall, so back to the left goes the lever until I can fine tune it, finding a happy medium, don't piss off the neighbors 2-3 minute warmup. This is the first start of the day, all subsequent starts are without the choke. Is there any way to make the choke less sensitive? Thanks!

Not really. You see, it's not a choke at all. The lever operates enrichening circuit plungers that open up passages in the carbs to dump "extry" fuel in.

"Don't piss off the neighbors" are you running an open exhaust or some other neighbor-vexing mod? Depending, it might contribute.

Are your enrichment wells in the carb bowls 110% clean? Might also contribute, if they're not.

Go-over the Enrichment Circuit's Mechanical Elements.

    Lube the Control and Cable.
Make sure the Valve Top Hats are not Bent or Tilted out-of-shape.
Lube the Activating Shaft and Bearing Pillars.

Look to see that the Mechanical Process of the Plunger-Lifting Fingers is SYNCHRONIZED and that the Fingers Set-screws are all tight.

Have someone work the Enrichment Lever while you apply some Light Maching Oil to the Shaft of each Plunger.

Don't try to Bend-back Plunger Top Hats that are Cock-eyed or Tilted.
They break easily if not HEATED.

Mine is finiky as well at start up....almost never fails to start
on first try but the enrichment circuit needs a bit of playing
with to get a steady idle untill warm.

On mine I know part of the prob is the small o-ring in all
my circuits are smashed out of shape and need replacing.
That being the case the pungers don't have even seating so
equal flow on all four occurs.

Once warm idle is rock steady except for a pulse or two from time
    to time.
