Hi all, I have a 1982 xj 1100 maxin and looking to fit drag handlebars or ape hangers, however don't know how to convert the single bar style to clamp on ape hangers or the other types. Do I need to change the top yokes?

I'm in the same boat, I was just cruising the forums to see what others have done. I was thinking I might have to go for clip-on bars, which I don't necessarily want because it seems like I would have to reach too far for them, but might be my only (simple) way out. I don't want to replace the triple tree, but if I can replace the top yoke only that would be ideal.

So anything you find would help, or if someone else can jump in that would be awesome!

The splined pegs for the stock bars unbolt from the top yoke, and can be replaced with standard bar clamps. I'm not sur which of the XJ cmalps will bolt right on (XJ750 Seca perhaps), but there should be an aftermarket set with th correct diameter and length of bolt.

But if you're wanting to swap to ape hangers, the ones ive seen are still single piece bars..... Just swap the bars. There are two small clamps holding the bar on. Pull the plastic center plugs out, Allen wrench to remove the two bolts in each one. Lift your bar off, put the new one on. Re-tighten, swap controls, go ride.

If your trying to GO to a two-piece bar, read the article above, but think of it in reverse.
