so after my 80 maxim 650 motor started needing some work after 50k, i bought a parts bike. did the swap last night, started it this morning and headed to work. the parts motor that i got had sat seince like 97... thats the first thing. my gear selection is horrible. first seems to be ok... neutral has like WAAAYYYY to much play inbetween 1st and second.... like if i pull up with clutch in, neutral light will go out, but bike still in neutral. kind of have to double click into second. third seems fine and seems like i have to double into 4th as well. if i dont double click it just goes into "neutral" same symptoms on downshifting. ive done some research... but dont want to hear the answer. ive also had a few pop outs trying to drive a little hard. im hoping someone will tell me to replace my clutch plates or something, but i have a feeling your going to tell me its internal transmission parts and im going to need a new motor unless i want to split the casing.... last faze, anyone around nh that has a cheap motor??!!!! lol. please help.

So when you give it gas the trans goes into neutral? Have you taken the side cover off to see if there is anything not looking so good in there? The 1100 have trouble with 2nd popping out but that's a gear issue. Can't imagine all your gears are bad.

it really doesnt have anything to do with throttle response. the shifter has spring action but when i shift i dont get that tension feel like you do when the gears are changed. almost feels like it goes a little too smooth, and almost like it doesnt fully close or something... like i said, if i upshift once, it wines out, if i upshift again, itll go into second. seems like if i go slow and steady and hold the shift, itll go. kind of hard to explain. best way to put it is it seems like the shifter should have another 1/2 inch of travel.

On the left cover side? I'm afraid. I took my old motor cover off to see how it worked and everything came undone. At least I didn't do it to this motor first :) but I'm hoping its that easy..

So if all springs look good under the left cover, could a bad clutch be to blame? Easiest way to describe is that it feels like cluth isn't fully disengaging. First is fine. Even get the first cold morning clunk. Cables are good with no slack. So it's either the springs on the left cover, something with the clutch, or a bad tranny

That's All done. I'm wondering if the plates would cause it, or what. I don't feel the tension that you normally feel when shifting. AfrAid to take off left cover to check springs bc the parts motor fell apart and not sure how exactly it goes
