hard to start xj700 watercooled

Bought my first 1986 maxim x bike and ever since I have owned it I have to baby sit the throttle when it is cold 32-60 degrees outside. It has a tune up well plugs/regular oil changes/carbs rebuilt/and know I just put on K&N pod filters-also uped the jets 15% from stock. Runs like a champ however I still can't get the flippin choke to work. I mean the slides go back and forth all right it just kills the engine everytime I try to use it.

Any ideas?

 

There is a lot of threads regarding the enrichment circuit (choke)on our bikes. I believe you may have plugged carb bowl. Its where the brass needle goes into your carb bowls and you have to use a correct drill bit to clear the plug. Chacal on these forums has the parts you will need. There is a write up about how to clean it on here somewhere..

 

yea... sounds like you need some more carb cleaning.... Pods + jets are not making it any easier too.

Are you fouling plugs, or too lean?
