I decided to try mounting a Harley batwing style fairing on my other bike (1100 Shadow) This can be done on pretty much any cruiser style bike.

I got one off Ebay for a resonable price. Here's what it looked like when I got it:

I found I needed to remove the lower part under the headlight mount and clean it up in that area some and prime it:

Then before painting,I made upper and lower mounts for it. The upper mounts are just short aluminum straps going to handlebar clamps and the lower mounts are old Memphis Shades windshield mount on the forks with a couple bolts to secure it solid.
The some paint to match the bike:

    Fairing mounted on the bike:

A little pinstriping, clearcoat and new windshield:

    Done!!

alot of work has been put in... I can see the result.. you just need a larger tank now.. to help round it off .. but thats my personal view... looking good though bud.

I realize this post is 4 years old, but does anyone think that this fairing will fit on a 1982 Maxim 750?

    Mike,
I would mount one in a heartbeat if I still had my XJ750, but I sold it. It was in the plans for the next step in my list of mods, but I got an offer that I couldn't refuse.
Mounting the Harley fairing would be easy and would use pretty much the same mounting points as on my Honda Shadow. PD

Ok thanks for the info...this is my second xj and I've never tried to really modify a motorcycle before and actually have no fabrication experience at all so this is a total learning experience for me

That hardley batwing is based off the original Wixom Bros fairing. Wixom made the fairings for harley until harley pulled the fairings in-house and started making them from plastic instead of fiberglass. Wixom was sold out to Pacifico in 76.

Look at the wixom, and pacifico fairings for info on how the fork mounting was handled. then make your own version.

Thanks for the info ghost....... I actually started looking into the Memphis shades batwing fairing last night and was looking into there mounting brackets I have to go home and check the specs (I'm on the road I drive truck) and see if they're the same or close was thinking of trying the fork brackets from Memphis shades for a sportster
