I have seen mentioned on the forum that some have used Harley Sportster 12.5" shocks on their xj's. For anyone that has, were there any modifications that needed to be made? eye loop bushing, bolt length etc?

Reason i ask i am looking at a pair of racing bros shocks for the XJ. The shocks are meant for the Sportster but if they work on the XJ great.

I have done it for other members and had to modify the shock eye on each one. The width was always too much and had to grind some away.
I would never mount Harley shocks on my XJ. Biggest reason is the weight difference between the bikes. You can make them fit but be prepared for a hard ride.
If you are going to spend that much on shocks get ones that are matched to your bike and riding style.

    Look here.

I do believe you can get most any length you need for your bike.

Thanks that helps. Couldn't really find options other than progressives. I don't want a ride that's too hard or too soft. For my weight everything i read says use the heavy duty springs. I wonder if the normal springs rated for 200 pounds will work since xj's are lighter.I do plan to ride 2up from time to time.
