Has anyone here ever tried this with an xj650?

I have tried this with my 82 650 Maxim a few times. I wonder if I'm only able to do this because of the back tire possibly being the original tire that was installed new. If I dump the clutch at 7500 and then go to wot, I do this through 1st gear and get a screach while powershifting to 2nd. Less than 9 inch wheelie while hitting 2nd gear. I tried this on my 1988 yz125 and after about 3 feet it is ready to flip my off the bike. I get no wheelie at all on the Maxim on launch. Just wondering.

?Think it all has to do with the shaft drive. I know the 550 guys can pop wheelies.

Nope, never tried it, never will. We've been on this topic before. I value my bikes, my life, and my reputation too much to even bother with the idea of a wheelie.

Perhaps the link is wrong but I saw a bloke doing burnouts and a poor old XS wishing it was an XJ and somebody on this site had bought it!

It does seem as though the owner is doing his utmost to break it.

Seriously though, wheelies are a bit of an art and you can do "Wheelie" courses ( on private land - of course ).

Thanks, but I'll pass. I spend enough on tires as it is. And I plan on covering many more miles on this motor.

I'd get me a unicycle if I wanted to ride on one wheel. My luck don't hold that good anyway.

A 82 650 Maxim is PROBABLY not the best wheelie candidate, wrong bars.
If you do get it up you're probably not going to like it.

I used to get my XS11 up a little by getting up to about 30 or 40 MPH (can’t remember which) and dropping back down into 1st.
It worked better at 80 then dropping down to 3rd, it would come right up about a foot then settle back to the ground.

I see the kids on 500’s loading the forks (pushing down), then clutch, probably WOT and pulling up on the bars.
    Check these youtubes.

Check out the 2:50 mark, might help you get it up.

If that guy coming down the road was going a little faster, ... you'd a been part of the grill-work on that car!

I try to avoid those situations where if something goes bad... six of my closest friends will be carrying me into church.

It was a nice long uphill grade to the pub & a guy came past me on the back wheel, he beat me to the pub, easy, difference was he was dead in a heap in the car park when I got there.

I don't care to do wheelies on the Maxim I just was wondering if anyone has tried a holeshot on a 650 Maxim/Seca.

Several years ago I saw a wheelie competition at a motorcycle rally. Lots of GSXRs etc with their pilots struggling to see over the fairing.

It was won by a Puch Maxi - for the uninitiated, a 50cc moped. This is not the event, but you get the picture.

And if you have 5 minutes to spare, these Tomos moped riders could show Valentino Rossi a thing or two (About how you dont need 200 bhp, silly racing leathers, a helmet or boots!)

Markie, I don't know what you're thinking but you always need a helmet, It may not look "cool", but I'd rather look stupid riding than look cool dying.

I would not want to mess up a shaft drive cause of this . Chain is another story.

Just don't bang it into second gear. Working for our dealer, I've seen many an XS, XJ, and VMAX with stripped second gears that cost big $$$ to repair.

If you watch the video - you'll see I was being sarcastic!

I wear a full face helmet, Armoured jacket and motorcycle gloves (Thankyou SWMBO).
