Has anyone successfully build a solo cafe racer seat on an xj550 and kept the hinges?

Title says it all...trying to keep the frame stock in case I want to switch back to the stock seat/ setup, but in order to do so, the cafe seat would have to be like 13 inches wide in order to keep the hinges. This seams extremely wide to me. Any suggestions or tips?

You could only use one hinge.

Do you think that would keep it from being loose?

is the 2 inches that big of a deal?

you could use a seca seat as the base to keep both hinges and latch

go maxim style with it bracket that slips under tank rubber and secure the rear to frame (maxim uses rubber latches)

take a look at the xj900 in the show case
    this link may help

do you plan on using the tail section?
I looked at my seca and you have many things you would have to remove to slim your seat down
seat lock mount is welded to frame then the post for the latch and if you are not using tail the mounting brackets for that.
