All of the FJ, XJ, FZ, YX Yamahas I have seen have 2 pick-ups for the ignition, but my FZ motor has only one. I have checked the parts fiche to confirm this . Any one else have just one?

One pick up with what looks like 4 contact points on the rotor, probably doesn't work on the wasted spark system like the XJ s......
    I'm probably way off lol..........

No, you're probably right on the money. I see 4 sensor flags, one curiously longer, I suspect that's the one that gives the computer its RPM and other signals that need to know when one crank revolution has occurred; the other three just fire the ignition.

The bike is not firing on one coil pack, depending on what connector I have the coils plugged in to. The coils are good, there is only 2 wires going to the black box. And the tach quit working. FZ motor and wiring on the Seca.

    Did it ever work?

I'm thinking you're dealing with two completely differently-designed ignition systems, and possibly making some unproven assumptions.

Dagnabit Thrasher, I was just in Knoxville last month... I wish you had posted sooner...!!!
Did you ohm out your pickup yet? What resistance did you find? Does it compare to the stock specs? If everything else checks out, then I would suspect the ECU (I didn't see a TCI listed on the PDF you sent me). I would be willing to take a shot at your ECU provided it isn't sealed.

Dont know the stock specs. I dont think I will have much luck running on all 4 with just one pick-up. I will have a new/used dual pick-up installed

That pick up will run all 4 just fine, just means the Ignition black box needs slightly more smarts than the old XJ units.

I would send it to Robert on the forums, sounds like the driver for 1 coil is out.
